Common questions

Does it work offline?

Practice, Notes, Vocab, translations, and grammar explanations work offline. Talk needs an internet connection because it has a live AI conversation partner.

Why can't Talk connect?

Check that your phone has working mobile data or Wi-Fi, then try again. Talk no longer needs your Mac or home Wi-Fi.

Why is there no sound?

Check the speaker toggle on the card, your iPhone volume, and the silent switch. Speech uses iOS voices; you can add or improve the German voice under Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.

What do the icons on the card do?

The ear turns on listening mode: you hear German first and reveal the text after. The double arrow flips the direction, so you read German and recall English.

Can I get a sentence back?

Swipe the card right. The previous sentence returns exactly as you left it.

Where is my learning data kept?

A local copy stays on your device, and your signed-in account syncs your words, notes, recent conversation transcripts, feedback and learning profile through Supabase. Completed conversation transcripts are sent through the protected service to OpenAI for analysis after you agree to the voice disclosure. You can clear learning history or delete the account from You.

Can I add my own sentences?

Not yet. Use the Notes tab for anything you want to keep in your own words.
